Now that your drive is installed, lets set your printer up.

To set it up, you will need to go into your “Devices and Printers”.  That can be found by going into your control panel, then selecting “Devices and Printers”.  Once there, locate the Zebra printer icon.  It may say ZDesigner or Zebra followed by the printer type.  After you locate that, right click on your mouse and select “Printer Preferences”.  Under the “Options” tab it is very important to set this up correctly.  Change the “Darkness”.  I recommend setting the darkness at 10, then adjusting it up or down based on your preference.  If you are using the 4×6 labels that were provided to you, you need to change the “Width” and “Height size.  For the “Width”, change to 4 and for the “Height” change to 6.  Then hit “Apply” at the bottom.

If your printer is a TLP2824, TLP2824-Z, TLP2844, TLP2844-Z, GK420t, GX420t, or GX430t model and you are only using thermal direct, then you need to make sure the setting is correct.  Right Click on the Zebra printer icon, then select “Printing Preferences”, then select “Advanced Setup” tab, then select the “Thermal Direct” option.  Then click “Apply”.  If you are using ribbon then select “Thermal Transfer”, then “Apply”.

Now that you set up the printer, lets print a test page.  Right click using your mouse on the Zebra icon, then select “Printer Properties”, then click “Print Test Page” on the bottom right.  If your printer prints a test page, then your settings are good.

Just because your printer is set up, that doesn’t mean you can just starting printing from eBay, Amazon, or other channels.  Some of the channels require the latest version of Java.  If the one you need requires Java and you do not have it installed, click this link below:

eBay Setup:
In eBay, you must change the settings in “Printer and Label Receipt Preferences”.  You will find this setting in the to right corner of the eBay page right before paying for postage.  If you do not see the printer listed that you purchased, then select the LP2844 printer and change the label height and width to 4×6.  If there is an option to save these setting for the future, you need to select that option.  Then, once you purchase your postage, you can select the printer that is installed to your computer regardless if it is not the LP2844 printer that you selected.  You are all set on eBay!

Amazon Setup:
In Amazon, make sure you are in the “Amazon Seller Central”, then select “Orders”.  Under that tab, select “Manage Order”.  Select where it says to buy postage.  Continue entering in the dimensions and weight of the package.  Then, choose the shipping carrier and price.  Once that is selected, on the top left side of the page, you will see “Printer”.  Select to add a printer and it will pull up all the printers available on your computer.  Select the printer that you have installed and make sure the label size is set to 4×6.  Finally click “Print with selected Printer”.  You are all set in Amazon!

You followed all the steps, and you are still have issues:
After you follow these steps and your printer is still not working properly, don’t assume that the printer is defective or not working.  Here are a few things you can do fix common issues.

Your printer is having spacing issues:
The most common fix to this issue is to calibrate your printer.  Go into your “Control Panel”, then select “Printers and Devices”.  Find the Zebra icon and using your mouse, right click on it and select “Printing Preferences”.  Then select “Tools”.  Next click “Calibrate Media”.  Hit send and you will hear your printer make a grinding noise while printing labels.  Calibrating the printer will sense the gaps in the labels and will often fix printing issues.  If that doesn’t work, try loading factory defaults steps below.

Your printer is not functioning properly and/or has a red light:
Go into your “Control Panel”, then select “Printers and Devices”.  Find the Zebra icon and using your mouse, right click on it and select “Printing Preferences”.  Then select “Tools”.  Next click “Load Factory Defaults”. Then hit send.  You will notice several pages printing from your printer.  If there is no response to the factory reset, you can also do this manually.  There are a few ways depending one which unit you have.  If you hold down on the button of your printer until the green light flashes 4 times, then release, this will reset your printer.  Some models require you to turn the printer off, then turn the unit on while holding down on the button once, then releasing.  Try the options in order until you factory reset your printer.  This will reset your printer to the original factory settings and may fix your issue.

Your printer is making louder then usual noise while printing:
Because labels have different thickness and are made from different manufactures, the heat from the print-head may react to some labels differently then others.  Reducing the darkness setting in most cases will eliminate that crackling sound.  You can reduce the darkness all the way to zero and still have good print quality.  Follow the above steps to change the darkness settings.
